Eiffel Tower ‘riot’ photo is actually from Euro 2016 final

A post on Facebook falsely claims that a photo shows a riot taking place near Paris’ Eiffel Tower in recent days. But the photo was actually taken in 2016.

The photo shows people, many of them with their face covered, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower next to a burning pile of rubbish.

The post claims that this shows “riots from illegal immigrants right now in France” and says that this is proof that people in the US need guns for protection.

Riots have broken out across France after a 17-year-old boy, Nahel M, died after being shot by a police officer at a traffic stop in a Paris suburb on 27 June.

However the photo shared on social media does not show current riots— it comes from an incident in 2016 when football fans clashed with police during the

Photo of ‘chemtrails’ shows contrails made from water vapour

A post on Facebook shows two pictures of the sky: one of clouds with the caption “these are clouds”, and the other of several trails from planes, with the caption “these are chemtrails”.

While it’s true that one of the images does show clouds, the other does not show “chemtrails”. It shows contrails, which consist of water vapour that freezes in the cold temperatures at high altitude forming long thin lines of cloud.

Depending on the humidity and temperature of the air, the tiny ice crystals can either change directly from a solid to a gas (becoming invisible after a few minutes) or remain in the air as water or ice, which means they stay visible for several hours.

Not all planes will produce contrails. Slight differences in flight altitude and the…

Photo shared on social media doesn’t show King Charles with Dunblane gunman

Claims that a photo shows King Charles, serial abuser Jimmy Savile and the Dunblane massacre shooter are going viral online. A video featuring the image has over 50,000 views on TikTok and has also been shared on Twitter and Facebook.

The picture is a genuine photo taken by a PA photographer in July 1999 of the now-King and Jimmy Savile during a visit to a mountain rescue centre in Glencoe, Scotland. But the third man pictured is Iain Thornber, one of the deputy Lord lieutenants for Inverness, not the Dunblane shooter.

Lord lieutenants arrange visits by members of the royal family amongst other roles, and are supported by their vice and deputies, of which Mr Thornber was one. Footage and images of the same visit from other sources also show the three men at Glencoe…
