Viral ‘Pokémon with guns’ game Palworld sparks cloud service race between Alibaba, Tencent in China

A popular video game developed by a Japanese studio has set off an unexpected cloud-computing race between Tencent Holdings and Alibaba Group Holding, as the two Chinese tech giants rush to draw players to their respective servers.

Palworld, an open-world survival game developed by Pocketpair that lets players catch and raise creatures known as Pals to build structures and fight, has become a breakout hit since its release on game distribution platform Steam on January 19, selling more than 8 million copies in less than six days.

With Pocketpair struggling to accommodate the surge of gamers that has overwhelmed its servers, the Tokyo-based company has given players the option to host the game on private servers.

Nexus Mods “not comfortable” hosting Palworld Pokémon mods due to potential Nintendo legal action


Nexus Mods – one of the biggest modding sites on the internet – has confirmed it won’t be hosting Pokémon-themed Palworld mods, saying doing so would “almost certainly… put us at risk of legal action” given Nintendo’s history of litigiousness.


Palworld’s big hook, of course, is the Pokémon-like Pals that roam its open world, all of which can be caught (in a very Pokémon-like manner) to assist in exploration and survival. The sometimes startling similarity between Pals and Pokémon’s creature designs has been a major talking point since its early access launch, and it was inevitable modders would begin swapping out Palworld’s derivative creatures for the real thing.

Pokemon Unite is hosting the Eevee Festival with all its evolutions popping up in the game

The Pokémon Company are bringing a commemoration of the Evolution Pokémon to their popular MOBA, Pokémon Unite through the Eevee Festival. A lot of new content is coming to the game in the form of Eevee evolutions, another quick battle category, battle pass 16, and a bunch of other events.

At the forefront of Pokémon Unite’s Eevee Festival is the addition of two of its evolutions, Umbreon and Leafeon joining the fray. They become available in-game on May 25th and June 8th respectively. On top of that, Inteleon is set to join the game as well, but its launch date hasn’t been revealed yet.


Between May 25th and June 23rd, players can participate in the Eevee Appeal-o-rama event, a new category of quick battles, where all Pokémon from both teams will only be different…

Pokemon Go is hosting Lets GO and Team Rocket GO Takeover events next week

Pokémon Go fans are prepping up for an exciting Community Day featuring Slowpoke and its Galarian variant on March 18th. Just a few days after it’s over, trainers will be roped into another event, as Professor Willow is conducting some wild research.

Between March 21st and 29th, Niantic will host a Let’s GO! Event in Pokémon Go. Field Research will be dominated by Pansage, Pansear, and Pampour, and Shiny versions may appear in the wild for lucky individuals as well. 

A Pokémon to look out for during this event is Meltan. The only way to get your hands on this Pokémon is through Mystery Boxes. It will be granted after sending a Pokémon from Pokémon Go either to Pokémon Home or one of the Nintendo Switch titles – Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!
