Tiktok once again has to defend itself against accusations that the short video platform is storing user data in China. The reason is an article in the American news magazine “Forbes”. There, citing internal documents, it is claimed that some users’ financial data are stored in China. The article prompted further inquiries from members of the US Congress. Several members of Congress have asked US Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate whether Tiktok boss Shou Zi Chew made false statements in his interrogation before the US Congress.

To Improve Privacy, Apple to Strip Tracking Parameters From Shared URLs

Apple is taking aim at a tool the ad industry uses to monitor internet users by cracking down on “tracking parameters” from web links. 

Users encounter tracking parameters on URLs from an ad campaign circulating on social media or over email. The URL can contain special text to help marketers confirm that users are clicking their links through a marketing campaign.

However, tracking parameters can also help the ad industry profile a user’s web-browsing activity by indicating which sites they used to view and click on a marketing campaign. That privacy risk is causing Apple to take action.

Microsoft developing privacy focused ChatGPT for businesses

Microsoft is developing a new and more secure version of ChatGPT aimed at businesses, such as banking and healthcare, where data security is of utmost importance.

The move could make the AI technology more appealing to companies that have so far been reluctant to share their information with the generative AI chatbot citing privacy and data security concerns.

The news comes at a time when Samsung has banned the use of generative AI utilities after a member of the staff uploaded sensitive source code into the platform.

Implementing this would require dedicated servers which would be significantly expensive and would cost customers up to ten times more than what they currently pay to use the regular version of ChatGPT, according to a report by The Information.
