Hannah Waddingham pulls out of hosting BBC Proms on day of event

Hannah Waddingham has announced that she has decided to step down from her role hosting one of the nights of the BBC Proms, which is due to take place tonight.

The Ted Lasso star had been due to oversee the proceedings at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall venue for an event titled the ‘Fantasy, Myths and Legends Prom.’

However, she explained in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram that she had pulled out from the position as a show of solidarity for those taking part in the Sag-Aftra strike in Hollywood.

‘Hey guys, I very sadly won’t be able to host tonight’s @bbcproms “Fantasy, Myths and Legends”,’ she wrote.

The BBC Proms is hosting its first ever video game music performance

This year The Proms will host the first ever dedicated video game music performance within its schedule, titled From 8-Bit to Infinity.

Featuring eight weeks of classical and orchestral music, The BBC Proms is one of the most famous and prestigious music festivals in the world. The lengthy festival of shows brings musicians and conductors from across the globe to perform across more than 70 shows in its duration.

This year will mark the first in which the show’s musical calendar has made dedicated room for video game music. Prom 21, held in London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall, is labeled as the first ever Gaming Prom.
