A video being shared widely online falsely claims to show the new King of Denmark waving a Palestinian flag in support of a demonstration in Copenhagen.

In the clip, which is circulating on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), a man on a balcony can be seen holding the Palestinian flag and waving, while pro-Palestine protesters gather in the street.    

A caption on Facebook also widely shared alongside the video says: “The King of Denmark, King Frederik X, waves the Palestinian flag from a balcony as he greets hundreds of protesters demonstrating in Copenhagen in solidarity with the people of Palestine.”

However, the man pictured in the footage is not the Danish monarch, and the video was actually filmed in Malmö, Sweden.

A video clip circulating on social media which some claim shows a “massive” pro-Palestinian protest taking place in France actually depicts a sporting event in Brazil. 

The clip, which has been shared multiple times on Facebook and also appears on X (formerly Twitter), is accompanied by posts suggesting that it shows a large protest taking place in France “in support of Palestine” despite the country having banned such events. 

Although it is true that France has banned pro-Palestinian protests on the grounds that they might lead to public disorder, the video attached to the post was not filmed in in that country.

Trans and queer-led groups are mounting a campaign against the upcoming Moms for Liberty summit in Philadelphia, calling on the Marriott to refuse to host a group they say is racist and transphobic.

Members of ACT UP Philadelphia — an AIDS activism group — and other advocates plan to rally Friday at 4 p.m. outside the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, where the national gathering of the conservative parent group is scheduled to be held June 29 through July 2.

As Ukrainian researchers have feared for their lives and careers after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, mathematicians have been grappling over what to do about a prominent mathematical conference that was set to be held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in July.

The International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) is “the largest and most significant conference on pure and applied mathematics as well as one of the world’s oldest scientific congresses,” according to the Web site of the 2022 conference. The meeting, which is run by the Germany-based International Mathematical Union (IMU), is held only once every four years. When the nine-day 2018 ICM was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, it drew 10,506 attendees.
