Beach in Iran is naturally red due to iron oxide soil

A video is being shared on social media with the claim that it shows a beach in Iran that has “turned” red due to “severe weather”.

In the clip, water which appears to be bright red is pouring across red ground and running off the edge of a small cliff which leads to what seems to be the edge of the sea.

The caption says: “Severe weather turned the beach red in Hormuz Iran… it’s Passover season.”

The footage has also been shared on Facebook with similar claims.

However, these claims are misleading. In fact, the video shows a naturally occurring phenomenon—and the colour of the beach itself is not caused by “severe weather”.

‘Jeopardy!’ host Ken Jennings explains how show works for ‘red states, blue states’: ‘Bizarrely universal’

“Jeopardy!” host Ken Jennings is celebrating the long-running game show’s broad appeal with audiences.

In a new interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” Jennings said, “The great and the odd thing about ‘Jeopardy!’ is, it’s kind of universally popular. Old people like ‘Jeopardy!,’ young people like ‘Jeopardy!,’ red states, blue states. It’s bizarrely universal.”

He continued, “America still agrees that there’s, like, a half-hour every day where facts do matter, and we are allowed to adjudicate things as right or wrong actually based on science and history. And I do think that’s an important bulwark.”

Jennings reflected on his long-standing interest in game shows, which began as a Mormon kid growing up in Korea.

Red potatoes aren’t artificially dyed

Posts on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok and Instagram have shared a video claiming that potatoes’ skins are dyed red so that they “sell for more money”.

But potato varieties with red skin don’t get their colour from being dyed, sprayed or painted.

False claims such as these can cause unnecessary alarm and uncertainty about what is safe to eat, and lead to confusion about genuine health guidance around food.
