Phoenix Rescue Mission hosting Easter Giveaway Event March 23

To make the event a success, Phoenix Rescue Mission needs the community’s help right now in donating the baskets.

Easter is right around the corner but for many families, celebrations are not possible due to food and financial insecurities. Because of this, Phoenix Rescue Mission is hosting an Easter Giveaway Event on March 23, during which nearly 500 families will receive 1,700 Easter baskets, hygiene kits, cleaning supplies and more.

To make the event a success, Phoenix Rescue Mission needs the community’s help right now in donating the baskets. Donated baskets should include:

  • Easter grass
  • Candy (no chocolate)
  • Candy-filled plastic eggs
  • Children’s books and Bibles
  • Coloring books & crayons
  • Small stuffed animals
  • Small toys

Pakistan to host int’l rescue challenge


LAHORE:

Pakistan is expected to host the first International Rescue Challenge and the Asia Pacific Earthquake Response Exercise (ERE) this year.

Pakistan Rescue Team (PRT) Commander Dr Rizwan Naseer made this announcement at the United Nations INSARAG New Year Teleconference on Wednesday.

The conference provided an opportunity for INSARAG Regional Chairs for 2024 to be officially introduced and to thank the outgoing Regional Chairs 2023 of last year.

Hoax missing boy post uses picture of animal rescue volunteer in Philippines

Posts claiming that a photograph shows a five-year-old boy who has gone missing after leaving home on his bike have been shared in Facebook groups. But these appeals for information are hoaxes. 

Full Fact has seen examples of these posts in community buy and sell groups in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, and Lethbridge, Canada.  

The posts both use exactly the same text which says: “Help!!! MISSING Child!! #Gawler

My grandson Josh only 5years old went out on his bike earlier today and he still hasn’t returned.He doesn’t know where he’s going, new surroundings.There is a silver alert activated on him. Please help bump this post so we can get him home safely!! [sic]”

Police don’t advise smashing car windows to rescue dogs in hot weather

Claims that “police say” you can smash a window to rescue a dog from a hot car after taking a photograph and waiting five minutes have been shared almost 180,000 times on Facebook

The posts, which encourage others to copy and paste the content in order to share it more widely, say: “Police say if you see a dog locked in a car in case of high heat, take a picture of the dog and the car, call the police, wait 5 minutes and break the car window. 

“This way you will not be charged with criminal damage and will give evidence to the police to take the dog owners to court.”

But this isn’t true. The National Police Chiefs’ Council told Full Fact that the information shared online is “not accurate”.
