Axemen hosting touch rugby Aug. 24 in Pemberton

A women’s open training session will follow Aug. 29 in Squamish

Community touch rugby is back in Pemberton.

This Saturday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m., locals and visitors are invited to Den Duyf Park for a recreational, non-contact game hosted by the Axemen Rugby Club. The event is designed to accommodate women, men, youth, veteran players and newcomers alike, and will be followed at 11 a.m. by training for the senior men’s roster. 

Ladies of all ages and skill levels will soon receive their own open training at Howe Sound Secondary Field. The session will be held Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.

France has pulled out of hosting the 2025 Rugby League World Cup with organisers citing financial reasons for the decision.

Organisers have been unable to meet financial criteria set out by the French government, leaving the event at risk of a deficit.

The tournament was to be staged during October and November 2025.

The International Rugby League (IRL) says it will now consider other options for the 2025 tournament, with the board due to meet in July.

“It’s difficult to express how disappointed I am with this news,” said IRL chair Troy Grant.
