List of ‘Communist Rules for Revolution’ has been widely debunked

A screenshot shared in a tweet by Andrew Bridgen (a former Conservative MP who currently sits as an independent after having had the whip withdrawn earlier this year) purports to show a list of “Communist Rules For Revolution”. Mr Bridgen shared it with the words: “These rules were written in 1919. Over 100 years later people have intrinsically not changed that much. We should all read and study this, it must be resisted at all cost.”

This list dates back several decades, and has been widely labelled a hoax.

The screenshot, which has also been shared a number of times on Facebook, says:

“In May, 1919 at Dusseldorf, Germany, Allied forces captured a very significant document: “Communist Rules For Revolution.” As you read these “Rules” now 50 years…

Two-thirds of EU Hosts welcome new STR rules

A new survey1 by Airbnb revealed that more than two-thirds (67.4%) of EU Hosts back the EU’s proposal to tackle fragmented short-term rental rules with a more clear, simple and harmonized bloc-wide approach. Only around one in ten (11.7%) are against the proposal.

The Council of the EU reached a common position on STR rules earlier this month, giving hope to many everyday Europeans who are excluded from the benefits of hosting due to fragmented and disproportionate local rules, which were often designed with large scale tourism operators in mind.

The EU is home to over 1 million Hosts on Airbnb – more than any other region in the world – and nearly three-quarters of them share just one home. The typical Host earned just over €3,0002 in 2021 – equivalent to two months…

Airbnb welcomes progress on EU short-term rental rules

Airbnb welcomes progress today on EU-wide short-term rental (STR) rules that mark a step towards more clear, consistent and harmonized rules for everyday Hosts across the bloc.

The European Commission launched its proposal for EU-wide STR rules in December last year which would give authorities better access to data via a harmonized data sharing framework, providing that local rules are clear and simple for everyday Hosts to follow.

The common position reached today by the Council of the EU paves the way for negotiations with the European Commission and Parliament to finalize the new rules later this year, which give hope to many everyday Europeans who are excluded from the benefits of hosting due to fragmented and disproportionate local rules, which were often designed with large…

Indian hosting company sues government over VPN rules

Pune-based hosting provider SnTHostings has sued the Indian government, challenging rules that would require VPN companies to maintain records of their users’ data. The Internet Freedom Foundation, which is assisting the firm in the lawsuit, announced news of petition in the Delhi High Court in a blog post on Wednesday. SnTHostings CEO Harsh Jain refused to comment on the case, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.

The Delhi High Court issued notice to the government on Wednesday. The case will be taken up next on December 9.

In the 33 page lawsuit, SnTHostings’s lawyers asked that the parts of the CERT-in directions (which we reported here) that require VPN providers to maintain user data be set aside. The firm argued that the requirement that VPN companies maintain logs…
