San Gabriel hosting candidate forum for upcoming City Council election – San Gabriel Valley Tribune

The San Gabriel Women’s Foundation is hosting a forum for candidates in the 2024 San Gabriel City Council election Thursday, Oct. 3.

League of Women Voters, Pasadena area, will be moderating the forum, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Padillo Room next door to the Mission Playhouse, near Santa Anita Street and Mission Drive.

San Gabriel voters will be asked to vote for no more than two of the following candidates this November: Jorge Herrera Avila, Tony Ding, Jeanne Raya, Carina Rivera and Isela Lopez Bowles.

Organizers welcomed attendees to bring their own questions for the candidates.

The election takes place on Nov. 5.

Paper Tiger is hosting a decidedly cute Halloween celebration this Thursday with  Hello-Ween, a Hello Kitty-themed rave.

Funky outfits are a part of any rave, but costumes are especially encouraged for this one since it will include a costume contest, according to details shared online by Paper Tiger. The gathering also will include giveaways and a photo booth.

San Siro stripped of 2027 UEFA Champions League final hosting rights

UEFA has confirmed that the 2027 Champions League final will no longer be held at the San Siro in Milan, citing concerns over potential renovation works.

Milan’s inability to provide guarantees that the stadium and its surrounding area would not be impacted by refurbishment prompted UEFA to reopen the bidding process for a new venue, with a decision expected in May or June 2025.

“As the Municipality of Milano could not guarantee that the San Siro stadium and its surroundings would not be affected by refurbishment works in the period of the 2027 UEFA Champions League final, it was decided not to assign the final to Milan and to re-open the bidding process to appoint a suitable venue,” a statement from UEFA reads.

San Jose’s Little Italy hosting festive events this fall

“Abbondanza” is a good word to describe the next few weeks in San Jose’s Little Italy, which is going to be home to several events as we head into the fall.

For starters, the latest downtown block party organized by the Urban Vibrancy Institute on Thursday should bring some crowds to Little Italy, a wedge of businesses and plazas on St. John Street next to the Guadalupe River Park.

Festivities get going at 5 p.m., with music from the Italica band — not an Italian Metallica cover band, as I’d hoped — and high-flying pizza-tossing demonstrations. If you prefer your food on a plate instead of flying through the air, though, you can grab a bite at any of the block’s eateries including Henry’s Hi-Life, Poor House Bistro, Torino Panino, Bibo’s and Paesano Ristorante.

Things to do: Summer Sizzle Used Book Sale July 20 at San Tan Valley Library
