Baku Higher Oil School hosts opening ceremony of international scientific conferences dedicated to 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev

The Baku Higher Oil School of SOCAR (BHOS) has hosted the opening ceremony of the 4th International Student Research and Science Conferences dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

The event began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the screening of the film “Heydar Aliyev’s ingenious personality”.

The ceremony was opened by the keynote speech of Rector of Baku Higher Oil School Elmar Gasimov, in which he provided information about the scientific conferences, noting that “BHOS has a great honour to organize events dedicated to the Great Leader”.

A 13-year-old teenager saved his school bus from crashing after the driver passed out. Dillon Reeves “jumped out of his seat, threw his backpack, ran to the front of the school bus, grabbed the wheel and managed to stop” the vehicle in the middle of the road, said Robert Livernois, director of public schools in a northern Michigan district at a press conference. The bus driver, who was taking about 60 students from Carter College in Warren, north of Detroit, home “passed out” at the wheel, Livernois said.

High school students host Ramadan celebration to fundraise for earthquake relief

The cafeteria at Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School in London may have looked bare Friday morning — but by night it’s set to be bursting with lanterns, decorations and an array of delicious foods and desserts.

That’s because a group of Muslim students at the high school have rallied together to host an iftar celebration, a meal shared when Muslims break daytime fast in the evening, to bring the community together during Ramadan. 

But the event is about more than sweets and festivities — it’s also a way to share their culture and fundraise money for relief efforts in February’s earthquake in Syria and Turkey.

“To take action and help the people in need really means a lot to us,” said Amal Belal, co-founder of Banting’s Earthquake Aid student group.

Union hosting School Supply Drive on Saturday

Saturday night will be Kids Night when Philadelphia Union hosts Houston Dynamo FC at Subaru Park with the match presented by Green Mountain Energy. With the evening dedicated to the youngest Union fans, the club will hosting a school supply drive for those in need!
