Tom Erickson returned to campus to lead the new School of Computer, Data and Information Sciences

The September 2021 announcement of a major fundraising campaign — which will include a state-of-the-art building — to help launch the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s new School of Computer, Data and Information Sciences, or CDIS, brought together an array of campus luminaries.

Chancellor Rebecca Blank was there that day at the Discovery Building. So were John and Tashia Morgridge, alumni who contributed a staggering $125 million to the new enterprise, and Erik Iverson, CEO of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, or WARF, which granted $50 million.

It’s fitting that the one best able to appreciate the day in historical context — past being prologue — was the new school’s founding director, Tom Erickson.

Middletown Area among several school districts experiencing website disruptions

Middletown School District is reporting that its website, raiderweb.org, will be down for an unknown length of time.

The district noted on Facebook Monday morning that Intrado, the web hosting service provider, experienced a fire that damaged the fiber into and out of its data center.

Several other districts, including Cumberland Valley and South Middleton, are also being affected.

The Middletown school district said that it had been given no timeline for restoration.

Thousands of school websites went down after ransomware strikes vendor

Thousands of schools in the United States and around the world have had their websites and some other functions knocked offline as a result of a ransomware attack targeting a major web host for K-12 institutions just as students prepared to return from the winter holidays.

The company, Finalsite, said Thursday it “identified the presence of ransomware on certain systems in our environment,” which led to its clients, spanning 110 countries, losing access to their websites and other online services.

The outages began on Tuesday, when Finalsite’s customers, like the school district in Oakwood, Ohio, began notifying students and parents that their websites…

Hunt School of Dental Medicine Joins El Paso Children’s Hospital in Hosting National Cleft Lip Symposium

Hunt School of Dental Medicine – Health care professionals dedicated to care of cleft lip and palate came from across the country to El Paso in early November for a two-day National Symposium on the Primary Cleft Lip Deformity as part of their continuing education.

The symposium was hosted by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso’s Hunt School of Dental Medicine and El Paso Children’s Hospital.

The 60 attendees included directors of cleft lip and cleft palate programs, surgeons, fellows and medical and dental residents.

School of Rock Glenbrook hosting grand reopening for a cause

School of Rock Glenbrook is hosting a grand reopening from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in their parking lot at 3139 Dundee Road, Northbrook.

The event will include a staff show and will help benefit scholarships for School of Rock summer camp programs.

“We are dedicated to giving back to our community,” says School of Rock Glenbrook and Oak Park owner Amy Renzulli. “We want the inside of our school to reflect the community outside. Anyone who walks through our doors should see someone who looks like them.”

The lineup includes School of Rock Glenbrook performance students at 4 p.m.; School of Rock Oak Park Show Team at 4:20 p.m.; and the School of Rock Staff Show from 5 to 7 p.m.
