U.S. LAW ENFORCEMENT JOINS INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS TO DISRUPT A VPN SERVICE USED TO FACILITATE CRIMINAL ACTIVITY | USAO-EDMI

DETROIT – United States Attorney Matthew Schneider announced today that law enforcement in the United States has worked jointly in support of an international takedown of a virtual private network (VPN), dubbed “Operation Nova.”  Domain names offered by an organization engaged in “bulletproof hosting” that provided assistance to cyber-criminals were seized, and related servers were shut down. U.S.-based servers used in the scheme were taken offline by U.S. authorities, while International partners did the same.

Schneider was joined in the announcement by Special Agent in Charge Timothy Waters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Detroit.

Web-hosting service Managed.com shuts down servers following cyberattack

A ransomware attack has forced Managed.com, a well-known provider of managed web-hosting services, to take down all its servers. The incident happened on Monday, November 16, and impacted public web-hosting systems.

As a result, some customer sites were encrypted and no longer accessible. At first, the company said the attack only affected a limited number of customers, adding that it immediately took them offline. But hours later, Managed.com revealed it shut down its entire infrastructure and is working hard to fix the issue and restore all systems.

The web-hosting service initially labeled the attack as unscheduled maintenance. But it later admitted it was, in fact, a cyberattack as the tech support team sent emails to the affected and angry customers. The services that went down…

Cloudflare launches web hosting service Cloudflare Pages

US web infrastructure firm Cloudflare has devised its own tool that lets web developers build and host websites.

Taking advantage of the company’s global infrastructure network, Cloudflare Pages is a hosting service that supports platforms built directly on the edge using the JAMstack architecture.

The firm has described this as “the next breakthrough in the web performance battle” due to the way it takes advantage of edge computing, with Cloudflare claiming performance will be almost twice as fast as other platforms.

Beyond this, Cloudflare also suggests its Pages service will be secure and scalable, saving developers time on integrated disparate systems, as well as benefitting from seamless GitHub integration to ease the development process.
