Footage from a video game has been circulating online with the suggestion it shows conflict between China and the US near a Baltimore bridge following the recent Francis Scott Key bridge collapse

The footage shows a series of shots being exchanged between a plane flying through a dark sky and a source on the ground. The plane is shot down at the end of the clip.

It has been shared on Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “Breaking: Tensions escalate as a Chinese plane engages US land forces near the Baltimore bridge, which has been destroyed in the skirmish. Developing story. #BreakingNews #baltimorebridge”.

Footage does not show a large explosion on Baltimore bridge before collapse

A video of an explosion on a bridge has been circulating on social media with false claims it shows an “alternate angle” of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore, in the US.

The footage shows cars travelling both ways across a bridge before a significant explosion. The clip does not show the bridge collapsing.

One post sharing the video on X (formerly Twitter) has more than 2,700 shares and says: “Alternate angle on Francis Scott Key bridge shows a large explosion”. The clip has also been shared multiple times on Facebook with the same caption.

This comes as the Francis Scott Key bridge collapsed on the morning of 26 March 2024 after a 290-metre-long Singapore-flagged container ship collided with it. A number of vehicles are believed to be…

Image of white vapour trails in the sky does not show ‘chemtrails’

An image of vapour trails left in the sky by aeroplanes has been shared on Facebook alongside a caption claiming these are “chemtrails” that are blocking the sun.

This isn’t true. These white lines are contrails, trails of vapour left behind by planes.

The image shows the roofs of what appear to be terraced houses or businesses, alongside a blue sky. A number of white trails are visible in the sky, some crossing each other, with some appearing to be in front of the sun.

It was posted with the caption: “Bill gates + Chemtrails = block the sun”.

We’ve written many times about “chemtrails”, a false but enduring conspiracy theory that typically claims these white lines are evidence of a plot to control the weather or spread poison by spraying…

‘Jeopardy!’ host Ken Jennings explains how show works for ‘red states, blue states’: ‘Bizarrely universal’

“Jeopardy!” host Ken Jennings is celebrating the long-running game show’s broad appeal with audiences.

In a new interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” Jennings said, “The great and the odd thing about ‘Jeopardy!’ is, it’s kind of universally popular. Old people like ‘Jeopardy!,’ young people like ‘Jeopardy!,’ red states, blue states. It’s bizarrely universal.”

He continued, “America still agrees that there’s, like, a half-hour every day where facts do matter, and we are allowed to adjudicate things as right or wrong actually based on science and history. And I do think that’s an important bulwark.”

Jennings reflected on his long-standing interest in game shows, which began as a Mormon kid growing up in Korea.
