Sweeping legal ruling orders ISPs to block pirate sites

A copyright battle has spawned a sweeping order demanding internet service providers block a set of pirate sites — one of the broadest such rulings to date.

As TorrentFreak recently reported, a New York district judge ruled in late April on a series of copyright lawsuits against three sites that rebroadcast mostly Hebrew-language television. The rightsholders demanded monetary damages from the site operators — who didn’t show up in court — and an injunction meant to prevent viewers from accessing the services. Judge Katherine Polk Failla approved the request and ordered a voluminous list of ISPs to block Israeli-TV.com, Israel.tv, and Sdarot.com. The companies are required to block not only the current addresses but also any domain known to be “used in the future … by…

Over 16,500 Sites Hacked to Distribute Malware via Web Redirect Service

Malware Web Redirect Service

A new traffic direction system (TDS) called Parrot has been spotted leveraging tens of thousands of compromised websites to launch further malicious campaigns.

“The TDS has infected various web servers hosting more than 16,500 websites, ranging from adult content sites, personal websites, university sites, and local government sites,” Avast researchers Pavel Novák and Jan Rubín said in a report published last week.

Traffic direction systems are used by threat actors to determine whether or not a target is of interest and should be redirected to a malicious domain under their control and act as a gateway to compromise their systems with malware.

Earlier this January, the BlackBerry Research and Intelligence Team detailed another TDS called Prometheus that has been put to use in…

How to scrub your information from internet sites

While each site takes down profiles a little differently, the process is relatively simple.

INDIANAPOLIS — Search your name to see what you can find.

That’s what I asked some coworkers around the office to do.

Some found their addresses, while others came across employment information.

Then, I looked them up on sites including Fast People Search, Whitepages and MyLife.

Together we found birthdates, correct cell phone numbers, current and prior addresses, relatives’ names, and up-to-date email addresses.

Can I get this information…

eNom data center migration mistakenly knocks sites offline

A data center migration from eNom web hosting provider caused unexpected domain resolution problems that are expected to last for a few hours.

Customers started to complain that they could no longer access their websites and emails due to Domain Name System (DNS) issues.

My google apps gmail is not getting email, turns out DNS is not working because @enom is doing “a datacenter move” that ran into problems. What medieval times are these when a datacenter move brings down DNS for organizations? Advance warning would have been nice @enomsupport.

The company said that it received reports of domains using eNom nameservers that were…
