‘Jerry Springer Show’ Clips Flood Social Media After Talk Show Host’s Death

Jerry Springer died peacefully at his home in suburban Chicago aged 79 on Thursday, a representative for Springer at WME agency told Newsweek.

After news of the talk show host’s death surfaced, clips from Jerry Springer flooded social media with people recalling fond memories of Springer’s show and paying tribute to its well-known host.

Springer hosted the eponymous show for 28 seasons from September 1991 to July 2018. The show was often ripe with family drama, confrontation, controversial topics, screaming matches, and physical altercations between guests while on set. Springer dabbled in politics before hosting the show—serving on Cincinnati’s city council and then becoming the city’s mayor in 1977.

Viewers of the show recalled its hilarity in their tributes to Springer on Twitter.

Hoax posts about ‘missing’ man ‘Martin Jones’ recirculating on social media

Hoax posts claiming that an elderly man with dementia named Martin Jones has gone missing with his dog have been shared on social media.

The posts say: “My uncle Mr Martin Jones aged 79 drove out with our dog Baxter and he hasn’t returned. He doesn’t know where he’s going, he has dementia. There is a silver alert activated on him. Please help bump this post so we can get him home safely.”

We have written about fake appeals for the whereabouts of “Martin Jones” before. The picture used in the posts, of a man wearing a dark jacket and cap holding a small dog, is taken from a post thanking a local volunteer for a community group in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The post is likely to have originated in the US as it makes a reference to a “silver alert”—a…

Another stumbling block for Truth Social: Google bars app download over violent content

Truth Social, the social media platform backed by former president Donald Trump, aims to provide an “open, free and honest global conversation.” But one place would-be users won’t be free to access the service is on Google’s Play store. The internet giant says it isn’t allowing downloads of the app due to violent content.

The Google Play app store allows people to pre-register for Truth Social, but they can’t yet directly download the service from the site, unlike at Apple’s App Store. In a statement to CBS MoneyWatch, Google said that it had notified Truth Social on August 19 about “several violations of standard policies in their current app submission.”

The snag with Google is yet another stumbling block for Truth Social, which rolled out earlier this year and has since

Trump-backed Truth Social app allegedly owes $1.6m in unpaid hosting fees

Former president Donald Trump’s conservative social media safe haven, Truth Social, is being accused by a vendor of nonpayment of upwards of $1 million in hosting fees, according to a report from Fox Business on Thursday.

The allegations come from RightForge, an internet infrastructure company, and one of Truth Social’s biggest vendors and creditors. If true, Fox Business reports, it would suggest that the social media platform’s finances “are in significant disarray.”

RightForge entered into an agreement to host Truth Social on its servers in October 2021 when the platform was created. The social media app was founded after Trump was banned from Twitter following the Jan. 6 riot and is meant to encourage “an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating on the basis…

“Trump never pays his bills”: Truth Social reportedly stiffs contractor amid financial “disarray”

Former President Donald Trump’s Twitter knockoff Truth Social stiffed a contractor in the latest sign of financial “disarray” at the troubled social network, according to Fox Business.

Truth Social, which is headed by former Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., is in a “bitter battle” with RightForge, the network’s web host and one of its largest vendors, over $1.6 million in unpaid bills, according to the report.

The company entered into an agreement with Truth Social in October. Sources told Fox Business that Truth Social made just three payments and hasn’t paid anything since March. The company is now threatening legal action unless it is paid, according to the report.

RightForge CEO Martin Avila did not deny the report but told the outlet he would not comment on “any…
