Experiences of addiction and recovery to be shared at special Donegal event

Personal experiences of addiction and recovery are to be shared at a special event  in Donegal to mark  recovery month.

Donegal-based Alcohol Forum Ireland is hosting the event on Friday at the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny which it describes as “a diverse and inclusive celebration of recovery”.

Recover Month is aimed at celebrating the gains made by all those in recovery from addiction.

Up to 100 people are booked to attend the event, including members of the Traveller, African, Palestinian and Polish communities in Donegal.

Among those attending the event are Senator Eileen Flynn, the first member of the Traveller community to become a member of the Oireachtas; Gary Rutherford, recovery champion and founder of ARC Fitness in Derry; Tolulope Babatunde…

COMMUNITY NOTES: CARRA – WESTERN PEOPLE (SEPTEMBER 17 EDITION)

Ballintubber GAA Club will host a social evening in the new Clogher Clubhouse on Sunday evening next, September 22, from 6.30 till 8pm.

A presentation will be made to special guest and former Ballintubber footballer, Fr Ulick Bourke in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to the missions as an SMA priest. 

Fr Ulick will share his many wonderful memories from his childhood days in Clogher right through to his football and soccer careers across the world as well as the enthralling story of his journey through the priesthood. 

It promises to be a special evening of memories and nostalgia.

Local nonprofit dedicated to circus arts to host Soirée des Arts Special: ‘Sideshow’ at Trail Theater – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

Nowadays, the circus is more than clowns just pouring out of a car. Some of the body-bending acts can blow you away.

Next week, Les Ailes du Désir Foundation, Miami’s only nonprofit dedicated to circus arts, is going to host their legendary soirée, and the performers are ready to give you a high-flying good time.

Feast your eyes in wonderment. LADD is throwing its third Soirée des Arts, called “Sideshow.”

‘Special day’: CFB Borden hosting free community celebration

Taking place Sept. 21, annual Borden Blast will include Ferris wheel, military vehicles and Kiddie Commando Obstacle Course

Canadian Forces Base Borden is holding its annual Borden Blast celebration Sept. 21.

The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include local food trucks, a petting zoo, face painting, a Ferris wheel, military vehicles, the Kiddie Commando Obstacle Course, and more.

There will also be $10,000 worth of prizes available to be won.

“This special day is dedicated to celebrating both our active and retired military members, as well as our vibrant local community members who want to participate and show their support,” said organizers.

Special Olympics bowling competition draws nearly 150 local athletes

The knocking of pins could be heard among laughter, high-fives and hugs in a local bowling alley July 13. A sea of colorful shirts matched the Special Olympics crowd’s colorful energy.

Nearly 150 Special Olympics athletes from Alachua and Bradford Counties gathered at Alley Gatorz to participate in the Area 3 Central Bowling Competition. During the free event, 17 coaches and 45 volunteers aided the athletes. 

The Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities, fostering inclusivity for nearly four million athletes globally.
