Video of Michelle Obama’s DNC speech where she seems to call herself a gay man is altered – Full Fact

A clip of Michelle Obama’s speech to the Democratic National Convention is being shared on social media with altered audio.

In the video, which is circulating on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, the former First Lady can be seen speaking at the Chicago event on 21 August.

In the footage, Mrs Obama appears to say: “For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us. 

“See his limited, narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hardworking, highly educated, successful gay men who happen to be black.”

A caption also being shared with the clip says: “Did Michelle Obama just say what I think she said?”

But the video has been edited, and Mrs Obama made no reference to gay men in her speech.

Good Morning Britain presenter Ed Balls recalled being left in tears as he spoke to former Pop Idol star Gareth Gates about his speech impediment.

Gates, now a qualified speech coach with the McGuire Programme, a stuttering treatment course, appeared on the ITV morning show on Tuesday to discuss his stammer.

During their conversation, the 39-year-old was played a clip from a year ago when presenter Balls, 57, was left emotional as he discussed his own challenges with a speech impediment.

The presenter shared in the clip from November 2023: “You inspired me. I thought, ‘If Gareth Gates can do this, I can too. And if he can be public, I can be public too. It was really hard, but I did it because you showed me how to do it.”

Russian president didn’t give speech warning of ‘satanic plans’ to depopulate the world

A video shared more than 15,000 times on Facebook claims to contain the contents of a speech criticising “satanic plans” to depopulate the planet, supposedly delivered by Russian president Vladimir Putin. 

The video, which has also been viewed thousands of times on TikTok, doesn’t show Mr Putin talking, but rather the audio of an unidentified person reading what is claimed to be a transcript of his speech, as part of a conversation with another unidentified person. 

In this speech, Mr Putin is alleged to address “the countries of the world” and supposedly accuses them of wanting to “deliberately reduce the world’s population by sacrificing innocent lives” and having “satanic plans to reduce the population of the planet”.
