Concerns raised over student halls development at old Limerick hotel

HERITAGE group An Taisce has expressed a number of concerns over plans to transform an old hotel in Limerick city into student accommodation.

Businessman Mark McMahon secured conditional permission from council to redevelop the former Railway Hotel, opposite Colbert Station in the city centre.

The proposal would see 111 student bed spaces across 25 apartments at the former hostelry, which ceased trading in 2016.

On top of this, the neighbouring former McEnery’s general store is slated for demolition, with a cafe taking its place and a seven-storey building behind the existing listed hotel.

Why can you use the 60+ Oyster card as voter ID, but not the 18+ Student Oyster card?

The 2023 local elections are the first in England to require all voters to show a form of photo ID in order to vote.

The introduction of voter ID has been the subject of significant controversy since it was passed into law last April.

The government says that voter ID is “a reasonable and proportionate way to confirm that someone is who they say they are when voting, thus stamping out the potential for voter fraud to take place”. However critics of the measure, including Labour and the Liberal Democrats, say there is little evidence of voter fraud taking place at a significant level during elections in the UK, and warn voters could be left disenfranchised if they don’t hold a valid form of ID.

On social media, much of the attention has been focused on what…

Usa, 13 year old saves the school bus

A 13-year-old teenager saved his school bus from crashing after the driver passed out. Dillon Reeves “jumped out of his seat, threw his backpack, ran to the front of the school bus, grabbed the wheel and managed to stop” the vehicle in the middle of the road, said Robert Livernois, director of public schools in a northern Michigan district at a press conference. The bus driver, who was taking about 60 students from Carter College in Warren, north of Detroit, home “passed out” at the wheel, Livernois said.

In a video released by the authorities, the driver faints and the student gets behind the wheel, brakes and manages to stop the bus despite the panic and screams of the frightened children. Then he shouts to his classmates to…

Florida teacher busted for hosting student brawls in class

A Florida middle school teacher has been arrested for hosting student fights and letting her kids brawl in the classroom, according to reports.

Angel Footman, 23, allegedly allowed kids to sock each other senseless as she looked on from her desk, sometimes telling kids not to record the blows or attract attention by screaming and yelling.

Several sixth-grade girls alerted administrators at Griffin Middle School in Tallahassee after Footman turned her classroom into a secret boxing pit.

Staffers were also presented with several videos shot late last month that showed Footman stationed at her desk while students hammered each other.

The footage showed her laying down the rules of engagement, telling participants not to pull hair and to limit their…
