Central Okanagan Public Schools is searching for families who have an extra bedroom in their home and some extra room in their hearts for sharing Canadian culture with international students.

The District’s International Education program will carefully match students with families that can provide a welcoming home and who will enjoy the mutual benefit that comes with hosting students.

Families host students as housing prices bite

At the far end of the kitchen in a detached family home in the south of Luxembourg, Agnès Kralj is busy clearing the breakfast table.

“Come in and meet Marianna,” she says, pointing to the 28-year-old PhD student from Brazil.

One could call Kralj and Marianna housemates. At least, they live together, sit for breakfast together and message each other to say if they are going to be home late. Yet, they are generations apart.

2024 Chancellor’s Undergraduate Awards Ceremony recognizes 173 outstanding students

The 2024 Chancellor’s Undergraduate Awards Ceremony on May 3 honored 173 students for their academic excellence, public service and undergraduate research at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.  

“Students, you’ve each followed your own path to reach this day, but there are a few things you have in common,” said Chancellor Jennifer L. Mnookin, who presided at the ceremony. “You’re passionate about your field of study, you’re motivated to push yourself a little beyond your comfort zone, and you’re able to work across — to collaborate with people who might have very different backgrounds and ideas and ways of looking at the world.”
