First Christian Church of Vallejo hosting symposium on Saturday – Times Herald Online

As part of its 125th anniversary celebration, First Christian Church of Vallejo is holding a special event titled, “Even Jesus Was a Refugee” Immigration Symposium on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon in its Fellowship Hall.

The church is asking the public to join “for a thought-provoking event discussing the topic of immigration through the lens of faith, history, law, and economics.”

“It can be difficult to navigate through polarizing topics, especially ones that shouldn’t be polarizing! So this is a great time for you and your organization to gain knowledge of how to effectively diffuse the rhetoric and learn to treat everyone as Jesus would have,” a news release states.

Wilmot Cancer Institute to host symposium dedicated to cancer survivors

Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Survivorship Program is hosting a free virtual Survivorship Symposium open to cancer survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

The program’s mission is to provide information, resources, and tangible advice to survivors as they reintegrate into everyday life. The topics will range from managing relationships and family life after a diagnosis, to sleep hygiene, managing the cost of cancer care, and more.

Bayou Preservation Association hosting 19th annual symposium

The Bayou Preservation Association, a Houston-area nonprofit dedicated to the education and preservation of the region’s bayous, is holding its 19th annual symposium virtually Sept. 28-29.

The theme of the event, “The Cost of Doing Nothing—Opting for Resilience,” will focus on the building of “resilient, sustainable communities,” according to outreach and engagement manager for the BPA, Ryan Francisco.

Part of the two-day symposium will focus on an “action agenda,” covering the ways residents can become involved in regional resilience to climate-related changes to the bayous.

Hunt School of Dental Medicine Joins El Paso Children’s Hospital in Hosting National Cleft Lip Symposium

Hunt School of Dental Medicine – Health care professionals dedicated to care of cleft lip and palate came from across the country to El Paso in early November for a two-day National Symposium on the Primary Cleft Lip Deformity as part of their continuing education.

The symposium was hosted by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso’s Hunt School of Dental Medicine and El Paso Children’s Hospital.

The 60 attendees included directors of cleft lip and cleft palate programs, surgeons, fellows and medical and dental residents.
