The bill that will force a sale or ban of TikTok in the United States is now law. President Joe Biden signed a package of foreign aid bills that included the “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act,” one day after the legislation was approved by the Senate.

In a statement, TikTok said it would challenge the law in court, which could delay an eventual sale or ban. “This unconstitutional law is a TikTok ban, and we will challenge it in court,” the company said. “We believe the facts and the law are clearly on our side, and we will ultimately prevail. The US Senate has voted on a bill that will either ban TikTok or force its parent company, ByteDance, to forfeit ownership of the social media app.

TikTok skeptics in the US claimed a landslide victory, with 79 senators voting in favor of the bill and 18 against.

The vote occurred on April 24, ten days after the House of Representatives passed the bill, titled Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applicants Act, by a margin of 360 to 58.

The final stage for the bill to be approved now is for US President Joe Biden to sign it into law.

He previously declared he would sign the bill if it passed both Congress chambers.

There are conversations online stirring that TikTok wants to expand its offerings to beyond its video content.
