In almost 37 years of living in the Philippines, my beloved wife Karen has tried her best to get her side of the family in the Netherlands to come and visit the Philippines. She extended repeated invitations, shared photos after photos, offered free food and accommodations as well as land travel arrangements, etc.

For her effort, her dad visited twice, her brother and sister came once and her brother in-law visited twice, once for tourism and once for work. Miracles upon miracles, she finally got her nephew and his fiancée to visit just before Christmas 2023. But that was after she threatened to disown the whole lot and not come home to the Netherlands.

South Africa to host forum dedicated to investment in tourism industry


Hundreds of business representatives will gather in Cape Town from 10 to 12 April for the Tourism Investment Forum Africa (Tifa). This is reported by
Pretoria News, a partner of TV BRICS.


The aim of the event is stated to be the development of business linkages between stakeholders and decision makers in the trade and investment aspects of the tourism ecosystem.


Forum organiser Miller Matola said that attracting funds to the tourism industry is bound to create jobs.


“By bringing investment you are facilitating the creation of employment but you are also ensuring inclusive economic growth,” he said.

Tourism minister says cost of B.C. hosting World Cup grew ‘substantially’

Lana Popham has a ‘ballpark figure’ but won’t release it until staff has completed work

B.C.’s tourism minister said the cost of hosting the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup has gone up, but she is not prepared to share those figures with the public yet.

“The numbers have changed substantially since we have received news of getting two more games (from the initial five),” Lana Popham acknowledged Tuesday (Feb. 27). “(So) we don’t have any working number today to give you but we’ll have that soon.”

Popham acknowledged that she has a “ballpark” figure of the additional costs, but she added that she was not prepared to give that figure right now. Staff are working on final numbers, she said.
