Longtime Jeopardy! fans are being treated to an embarrassment of riches with the Invitational Tournament that’s currently airing in syndication. Some of our favorite contestants of the current and past eras are returning to Sony Pictures Studios to face off against one another for the opportunity to advance to Jeopardy! Masters, and for some of them, that means they’re competing for the first time without Alex Trebek as the host. The decision appears to have been made on a permanent replacement for the late Canadian host Alex Trebek on Jeopardy.

Mayim Bialik is out.

Bialik says Sony told her she will no longer host the syndicated version of “Jeopardy!”  Adding, she is honoured to have been nominated for an Emmy for her work on the show while she shared hosting duties with Ken Jennings.

Sony says former champ Jennings will be the sole host next season to maintain continuity for viewers.

Alex Trebek died in 2020 at the age of 80.

Yoshie Hill, a program support specialist from Colma, California, made a heartfelt return to Jeopardy! as a contestant during the Champions Wildcard tournament hosted by Ken Jennings. This special event sees former one, two, and three-time winners from Seasons 37 and 38 competing for glory.

Yoshie’s return to Jeopardy! was a poignant one, as she had been a part of the very last game hosted by the beloved Alex Trebek, who succumbed to stage four cancer in 2020. The episode had been taped just ten days before Alex’s passing, marking the end of an era for the iconic game show.

Ken Jennings, who has more “Jeopardy!” wins than any other contestant in show history, was the first person to fill in as a guest host following the death of Alex Trebek — a role he said he was “beyond nervous” to take on at the time.

“Honestly, I’m with the audience. I don’t want me out here. I want to see Alex out here,” Jennings said in a brief “Jeopardy!” interview filmed shortly after Trebek’s death from pancreatic cancer nearly three years ago. “I know exactly how they feel when they see anybody else behind this lectern. But there are tens of millions of people who love this show. We love this show, Alex loved the show. I’m just happy to fill in and help out.”
