Before Musk Stock Buy, Twitter Top Lawyer’s Pay Jumped 130%

Twitter Inc., which has a new CEO and new largest shareholder in Elon Musk, saw its legal chief Vijaya Gadde receive a roughly 130% pay raise in 2021.

Gadde’s total compensation was more than $16.9 million last year, the San Francisco-based company disclosed in a preliminary annual proxy statement filed April 1. That’s up from the roughly $7.3 million she earned in 2020.

The securities filing came before Musk, the high-profile head of Tesla Inc., on Monday became Twitter’s largest investor by taking a 9.2% stake in the company. Twitter’s stock price closed Monday at $49.97 per share.

By Khorri Atkinson (February 23, 2022, 4:25 PM EST) — Conservative microblogging platform Parler said Wednesday that it has subpoenaed Twitter for documents concerning its alleged collusion with Amazon Web Services Inc., which led to the suspension of Parler’s web hosting account last year following the deadly U.S. Capitol riot.

The company said in a statement that the subpoena issued by a Washington state court as part of Parler’s breach of contract and defamation lawsuit against AWS demands a wide range of documents to challenge the “continuing abuse of power and anti-competitive conduct of Big Tech companies, harming individuals and businesses who don’t conform to their viewpoints.”

As Facebook, Twitter remove far-right users, “alt-tech” houses exiled netizens

When sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube ban users for violating their terms of service, those individuals often don’t leave social media altogether. Instead, many of these digital deportees flock to alternative sites to meet their online social demands.

Known broadly as “alt-tech,” sites like Gab, Parler and Rumble are best known as harbors for far-right netizens, providing more lax content moderation than their mainstream counterparts. To supporters of these sites, the platforms are seen as bastions of free speech in an online environment dominated by a handful of suppressive corporations. To critics, they willingly house bigotry, antisemitism and white supremacy — with Gab’s founder even openly expressing such views online.

Parler Sues Amazon Web Services, Claiming It Collaborated With Twitter to Stifle Business

One day after getting booted from Amazon’s computing service, Parler has filed suit against the tech giant, claiming it violated the Sherman Antitrust Act in collaborating with Twitter to “kill Parler’s business—at the very time it is set to skyrocket.” Parler went offline overnight Monday, as Amazon Web Services cut off its access to the computing software following a violent insurrection in the U.S. Capitol. Several Parler users had posted messages either encouraging the angry mob, or planning subsequent violence. The lawsuit claims that Twitter colluded with AWS to stifle Parler’s business, and that AWS “silences the millions of Parler users who do not feel their free speech is protected by Twitter or other social media apps.” Parler is seeking to be restored to AWS….
