Video shows Iraqi MP describing actions of Islamic State, not Hamas

A video circulating on social media falsely claims to show an Israeli woman who has escaped “Hamas militants”.

While the woman is speaking Arabic, English subtitles show her relaying the horrific treatment of other women supposedly by Hamas.

Several posts on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) share the video with the caption: “She is an Israeli escaped from Hamas militants and interviewed by Middle East Media Research Institute Headquartered in Washington DC. Identity not disclosed by the MEMRI tv.”

However, the clip predates recent events in Israel and Gaza, and does not show an Israeli woman.

The video shows an interview with an Iraqi MP, Vian Dakhil, in 2017 by an Egyptian news channel called Extra News. It was shared on YouTube by the channel with…

Video does not show pro-Palestinian protest in France

A video clip circulating on social media which some claim shows a “massive” pro-Palestinian protest taking place in France actually depicts a sporting event in Brazil.

The clip, which has been shared multiple times on Facebook and also appears on X (formerly Twitter), is accompanied by posts suggesting that it shows a large protest taking place in France “in support of Palestine” despite the country having banned such events.

Although it is true that France has banned pro-Palestinian protests on the grounds that they might lead to public disorder, the video attached to the post was not filmed in in that country.

As others have pointed out, the clip actually shows tens of thousands of fans of the Brazilian football team Palmeiras, accompanying the squad…

Video of little girl taught to laugh at explosion sounds was filmed in Syria in 2020 not Gaza this year

A video that has been shared 13,000 times on X (formerly Twitter) shows a man apparently telling his daughter to laugh when bombs are dropped with the caption: “A Palestinian father tells his daughter to laugh every time she hears an Israeli airstrike so that she doesn’t get scared.”

The same video has also been shared on Facebook with similar captions.

But the video actually shows a Syrian family, not a Palestinian one, in Syria. It was first shared online over three years ago, during the country’s ongoing war

It was recorded by Syrian refugee Abdullah Mohammad, and shows him and his daughter Salwa while they were living with a friend in the town of Sarmada in Syria, having fled their home in Saraqib city.

Kim Jong Un video doesn’t show him talking about Israel-Gaza conflict

A video of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un making a speech has been claimed to show him commenting on the Israel-Gaza conflict. The video has been shared on X (formerly Twitter) as well as on Facebook and TikTok.

A caption on the video states: “Kim Jong-un speech about Israel Palestine war [sic].” The fake subtitles say: “Under the Biden administration conflicts erupt yearly. This year a war begins between Israel and Palestine. Last year a war begins [sic] between Russia and Ukraine and two years ago billions worth of military equipment was left to the Taliban.

“I’m afraid that if the Biden admin. does not cease to exist in the next election World War 3 may begin. Who knows what next year’s war will be. I support Donald Trump for president in 2024. Good…

Clip claiming to show new ‘iron beam’ system in Israel is taken from a video game

A video which has been viewed 5.8 million times on X (formerly Twitter) claiming to show a “New Iron Beam” defence system in Israel is actually taken from a video game.

The clip, which has also circulated on Facebook, shows explosions taking place in the air at night, which some on social media have claimed shows a new defence system, called the “iron beam”, in operation in Israel.

The “iron beam” is a laser weapon developed in Israel. It has not yet been used in the country.

However, the video in question is actually footage from the Arma 3 military simulation video game.

The clip is part of a longer video with footage from the game shared on YouTube on 11 October, intended to replicate Israel’s Iron Dome air defence system. The video description states…
