New app allows you to send text, audio and video messages to loved ones after you die

Psychic mediums performing séances are what people normally visualize when they think about receiving messages from the dead, but in 2024, all they need is their cell phone or computer.

Eternal Applications, a web hosting company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, launched an “after-life messaging platform” on Thursday that allows people to create personalized messages that will be delivered to family and friends after they die.

People will be able to use “easy-to-use-text, video and audio tools” to record and send messages, Eternal Applications said in a news release.

The company aims to provide “peace of mind to users” who want their legacy, wisdom or life stories shared and remembered, according to the release.

Video of ‘Rafah actors’ actually from Palestinian TV drama series

A video is being shared online with the implication that it shows “Rafah actors” preparing to pretend to be dead or injured in Gaza. This comes amidst reports Israel appears to be set to launch a large-scale assault on the city in the south of Gaza.

In the clip, which is circulating on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, and shared over 4,000 times on X (formerly Twitter), a man lies on a stretcher while a woman applies makeup to his chest and neck, and another man sits in what appears to be a body bag—while smoking a cigarette.

Text overlaid on the video says “Make-up Gaza Style” and has a watermark of an account which shares what it claims are “Pallywood” videos—a portmanteau of Palestine and Bollywood

West Bank fire video is not recent

A post liked more than a thousand times on Threads claims that a video of a large fire in the West Bank was filmed in late April.

The video, which appears to have been taken at some distance from the fire, shows a huge blaze in the middle of a built-up area.

Posted on 26 April, the caption claims: “Hebron in the West Bank tonight”. It adds, “H@mas are not in the West Bank”, possibly implying the fire was a result of Israeli action following the 7 October attacks on the country by Hamas.

But this video first appeared online two months earlier, and appears to show a fire at a plastics factory in Hebron that broke out on 27 February

The post shared on Threads is watermarked with the handle of an Instagram account, which posted the video, alongside several

Rocket launch video unrelated to Iran attack on Israel

A video is being shared on social media and by some news outlets with false claims it shows Iran’s attack on Israel with drones and missiles.

The night-time clip shows projectiles apparently being fired from the ground into the sky in a rapid barrage. Some versions of the footage include an emoji of Iran’s flag in the top right corner.

These claims have been shared on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube, and the video has also been included in video montages in news reports about Iran’s assault on 13 April

Actor and comedian Michael Rapaport also shared the video in two separate posts with his two million Instagram followers, adding in one: “The Iron Dome literally saved millions of life’s [sic] tonight”. We’ve contacted Mr Rapaport for…

Video does not show Tel Aviv ‘burning’ after Iran missile strike

A video liked more than 1,300 times on Threads claims to show the Israeli city of Tel Aviv “burning”.

The video has also been shared a number of times on Facebook with some of these posts specifying that the city is on fire as a result of an Iranian attack.

But the clip, which was posted to the platform on 15 April, has been circulating online since at least 23 March and appears to show Ukrainian missiles targeting Russian ships in a Crimean port.

The post claiming the footage was shot in Tel Aviv was shared on 14 April, after Iran launched more than 300 missiles towards Israel on the night of 13 April. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)—a branch of its armed forces—reportedly said the attack was “in retaliation” against Israel’s…
