After a wait of 12 years, the 50-over World Cup will return to India and the country will host the 2023 World Cup in October-November. It will be the first time that India will be the sole host of the tournament. In 2011, India shared the hosting rights with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In 1996 and 1987 too, India had shared the hosting rights with at least one more country.

FIBA confident of successful World Cup hosting by Philippines

FIBA executive director David Crocker is confident that the Philippines is capable of successfully hosting the 2023 FIBA World Cup scheduled to fire off this Friday, August 25 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Judging from his recent visit in Manila to see the logistical preparations made by the organizing committee under Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, Crocker shared how he was left “impressed with the strong support” provided by the different sectors involved.

“I think one of the real strong bases is the whole of government support, the heads of the department meeting regularly to help the SBP, and the organization committed to understand what are the pressure points and where the government (could) help and support, what will make things work,” Crocker said during his…

‘England did us proud’: Stars congratulate Lionesses for World Cup final efforts

British stars from the world of showbiz and broadcasting have shared messages of appreciation for the Lionesses who lost to Spain in the Women’s World Cup final.

Spain secured a final 1-0 victory in Sydney on Sunday, following Olga Carmona’s first-half goal, however, Sarina Wiegman’s side still achieved a best-ever second-place finish.

Consoling the team, who appeared visibly emotional after the final whistle was blown, former footballer turned pundit Chris Kamara tweeted: “England did us proud, great tournament and getting to the final was amazing.”
