After a ransomware attack on a web hosting provider a week before Oregon’s primary election, the secretary of state’s office is working to preserve the integrity of its online system where campaign financial records are published.
People entering information into the ORESTAR state campaign finance reporting system may have been affected, according to Secretary of State Shemia Fagan’s office, and have been issued explicit instructions on how to proceed.
“The Oregon Secretary of State’s office has not been hacked,” Fagan’s office said late Monday in a statement. “On our systems, no sensitive information has been exposed.” There have been no compromises in election administration systems.”
