Only Connect series dedicated to creator Chris Stuart after his death

The team behind Only Connect have dedicated the new series to its creator, Chris Stuart, after his death earlier this year.

Stuart, who was also a broadcasting legend, died in July aged 73.

The quiz show, hosted by Victoria Coren Mitchell, has returned for its 18th series and, at the end of episode one, paid tribute to Stuart, who was an executive producer on the show.

Following the credits, an old scene of Victoria was aired.

Microsoft to enact new cloud outsourcing and hosting licensing changes which still don’t address core customer concerns

On August 29, Microsoft went public with promised cloud outsourcing and hosting changes which officials first outlined earlier this year. These changes, which will take effect on October 1, 2022, still don’t address some of the core customer and partner complaints which led to Microsoft revising its policies in these areas.

Microsoft introduced outsourcing restriction in 2019 that resulted in customers paying more to run Microsoft software in non-Microsoft cloud environments. Customers who had been using AWS and Google Cloud as dedicated hosts for running Windows Server and clients were affected directly, but some of them didn’t realize the extent of the impact until their contracts with Microsoft were up for renewal this year. University Writing hosting WriteFest for graduate students

This fall, University Writing will host WriteFest to support graduate student writers. WriteFest is open to graduate students working on their thesis, dissertation, ePortfolio or piece for publication. Over four sessions, participants will explore habits and skills that support productivity and well-being during the completion of longer projects. They will also have dedicated time to write alongside peers in a supportive environment.

Graduate students can register to participate either in-person or virtually, and are expected to attend all four sessions. Sessions will be held on the following dates from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.: Sept.14, Sept. 28, Oct. 12 and Oct. 26. Registration closes Sept. 7.

Data center operator hosting 17% of Ethereum’s nodes says staking is not permitted

Hetzner Online, a data center based in Germany, said that using its hosting services for any application related to cryptocurrency mining is not permitted. The company disclosed its stance in a Reddit thread, saying that its ban on mining-related uses includes both Proof-of-Stake (PoS) and Proof-of-Work (PoW) applications.

The company’s stance on PoS applications could have serious implications on the Ethereum ecosystem, as 16.0% of Ethereum’s validator nodes are currently hosted on Hetzner’s servers.

Hetzner’s comments have been met with disapproval from the broader crypto community, with many criticizing the company for hosting cryptocurrency-related applications, including mining, for years without disclosing it in their terms of service.
