The team behind Only Connect have dedicated the new series to its creator, Chris Stuart, after his death earlier this year.
Stuart, who was also a broadcasting legend, died in July aged 73.
The quiz show, hosted by Victoria Coren Mitchell, has returned for its 18th series and, at the end of episode one, paid tribute to Stuart, who was an executive producer on the show.
Following the credits, an old scene of Victoria was aired.
