The San Gabriel Women’s Foundation is hosting a forum for candidates in the 2024 San Gabriel City Council election Thursday, Oct. 3. League of Women Voters, Pasadena area, will be moderating the forum, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Padillo Room next door to the Mission Playhouse, near Santa Anita Street and Mission Drive. San Gabriel voters will be asked to vote for no more than two of the following candidates this November: Jorge Herrera Avila, Tony Ding, Jeanne Raya, Carina Rivera and Isela Lopez Bowles. Organizers welcomed attendees to bring their own questions for the candidates. The election takes place on Nov. 5. Source link

SANTA CRUZ — From Scotts Valley to Watsonville and everywhere in between, it is well-known that Santa Cruz County is an artist haven. That goes not just for visual artists and musicians but writers and poets as well, all coming from different walks of life with different stories to share. There are enough writers of color throughout Santa Cruz County that an organization was formed in 2021 appropriately called Writers of Color Santa Cruz County to amplify writers of color and allow for opportunities to share their work. One avenue for the past three years has been poetry readings at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History. That tradition will continue Oct. 10  when 17 local poets will read and showcase their work. Frank Fritz, the beloved co-host of the History Channel’s hit show American Pickers, died at 60. His longtime friend and co-host, Mike Wolfe, shared the sad news on social media. In an emotional post on Instagram, Wolfe said, “It’s with a broken heart that I share with all of you that Frank passed away last night.” He went on to describe Frank as a dreamer with a kind and sensitive personality, someone who was just as funny and caring off-camera as he was on the show. Having known him for more than half his life, Wolfe shared how much Frank meant to him. What happened to Frank Fritz? Fritz’s death comes two years after he suffered a major stroke in 2022. Frank Fritz, the longtime “American Pickers” host, has died at 60 years old. The news was announced on social media by his friend and co-host Mike Wolfe. The duo appeared together on the History Channel staple for 10 years and hundreds of episodes. The series followed Fritz and Wolfe as they toured the country in search of antiques and artifacts they can sell in their shop or buy to add to their personal collections.
