BBC Breakfast host halts live broadcast to share 'sad' breaking news with fans – Daily Star


BBC Breakfast was abruptly interrupted as presenters Ben Thompson and Sarah Campbell shared some “sad” news.

Filling in for regulars Jon Kay and Sally Nugent on on Monday (August 5), the presenters shared the announcement of England cricket legend Graham Thorpe’s death aged of 55.

The show paused its usual programming to break the shocking news to viewers, with Ben addressing the audience: “Just some more news to bring to you this morning away from the Olympics and some sad news as-well.”

He continued with a sombre tone” “News of the death of the former cricketer Graham Thorpe at the age of just 55. His family revealed he had been diagnosed with a serious illness back in March of 2022.”

‘The Locher Room’ to Host Special Live Broadcast Dedicated to Soap Opera Weekly

This year marks 35 years since the debut of Soap Opera Weekly, the defunct full-size print magazine that delved deep into what’s happening or would be happening on all of the daytime dramas. The publication ran for 23 years.

To celebrate the magazine and all it accomplished, Alan Locher‘s “The Locher Room” will host a special live broadcast on Wednesday, May 22. The broadcast will feature key members from Soap Opera Weekly’s heydey, including founding editor-in-chief Mimi Torchin, who led the outlet for 11 years, managing editor Kate Walsh, news editor Gabby Winkel and editors Jonathan Reiner, Mark McGarry and Travis Kinsey.

MARCH Madness fans can expect to hear a different voice as a longtime host for CBS and Turner Sports is set to miss the tournament.

Greg Gumbel, 77, reportedly will miss the famous NCAA men’s college basketball tournament coverage due to “family health issues.”

The NCAA tournament is the biggest event in college basketball, and with Gumbel out, the network had to shift for the major organizational change.

Richard Deitsch of The Athletic reports that TNT will extend the air time for Inside the NBA anchor Ernie Johnson.
