Collar City Pride hosting Town Hall to discuss local needs – Troy Record

TROY, N.Y. — Collar City Pride will host a Town Hall on Saturday, Sep. 14, at the Troy Public Library, 100 2nd St., Downtown Troy, the organization announced in a press release.

The event will run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to the public with a virtual participation option.

The Town Hall will provide an opportunity for community members to discuss the needs of queer individuals and trends in substance use, according to the release. The program will include an overview of Collar City Pride’s mission and values and an open forum for feedback on future programming and services.

Masks will be provided and are required for in-person attendees. Snacks and beverages will also be available. Virtual attendance details will be shared upon registration.

Golden Age Center now hosting educational series once a month – Canon City Daily Record

The Golden Age Center, (GAC), in Canon City has started an educational series from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the center, located at 728 Main St., with a variety of topics of interest to seniors and the general public. The sessions are free and open to the community. To date, they have had presentations on Emergency Preparedness, an Overview of Ham Radio, and we have the author of the book, “The Girl Who Cried Wolf, Nancy Jensen, coming on Sept. 19 and historian and genealogy expert, Terri Meeks presenting “The Men Who Built the Bridge”, on Oct. 17.  They look forward to seeing you at future presentations and welcome suggestions of educational experiences you’d like to see in the future.

Biden breaks unofficial rule about headwear while hosting the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs – Baltimore Sun

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden welcomed the Kansas City Chiefs to the White House on Friday, lauding the back-to-back Super Bowl champion team for its sportsmanship on and off the field, and breaking an unofficial political rule about headwear. He tried on a Chiefs helmet the team gave him as a gift.

“It was cool to see him put the helmet on,” quarterback Patrick Mahomes told reporters after the celebration on the South Lawn. “We didn’t expect that.”

Coach Andy Reid speculated that Biden might have been the first president to wear an NFL helmet.

“You all witnessed it. It’s history being made,” said Reid, who appeared with Mahomes.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden is welcoming the Kansas City Chiefs to the White House on Friday to celebrate the NFL team’s third Super Bowl victory in five years.

The entire team was expected to participate in the event on the South Lawn, for the second time in two years. But one person not expected was singer Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of tight end Travis Kelce.

Biden is honoring the Chiefs after their come-from-behind overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl in Las Vegas in February. It’s a longstanding tradition for major championship sports teams, both professional and collegiate, to be invited to the White House.
