Claim about three-year-old girl found wandering recirculates – Full Fact

Since we first wrote about it earlier this month, we’ve seen another example shared on Facebook of a hoax post claiming a three-year-old girl was found wandering and taken to a local police station.

The post features an image of a young girl who seems to be asleep, and who has a scar-like mark on her face.

The text of the post says: “This 3 year old baby girl, Mila, was found last night walking behind a home here in #derby.

“Deputy Sara Thomas saved her and took her to the Police Station but no one has an idea where she lives, the neighbours don’t know her or how she got there. She says her mom’s name is Abigail”.

The post then includes an appeal for people to “flood our feeds so that this post may reach her family”.

Old photo of Donald Trump used to claim assassination attempt was ‘fake’ – Full Fact

A photo of former president and Republican nominee Donald Trump is being shared online with the claim it’s a recent photo—allegedly proving an assassination attempt on his life was “fake”.

The photo is of the side of Mr Trump’s face and magnifies his right ear. Overlaid text says: “This was an image from Team Trump released yesterday, showing his right ear. Where’s the scar or sutures from being hit in the ear?”

Mr Trump’s right ear was injured in an attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania, on 13 July. One member of the audience, Corey Comperatore, was killed and two others, David Dutch and James Copenhaver, were seriously injured

However, this is not a recent photo shared by his team “yesterday”, as claimed. The photo dates back…

Claim ‘African immigrant stabbed a British police officer’ in Manchester is false – Full Fact

Claims that “an African immigrant stabbed a British police officer” in Manchester last week have been widely circulating on social media alongside a video that claims to show the aftermath. But Greater Manchester Police has confirmed no officers or members of the public were stabbed during an incident near Piccadilly Gardens on 8 August.

One post on X, formerly Twitter, has been viewed more than 2.3 million times and has also spread to Facebook

The video being shared shows people running and a police officer on the floor. An arrow points to that officer with the caption “police officer stabbed”. Police then run into a building, and a voice can be heard saying “a suspect has been detained”. Several police are seen pinning someone down before a voice…

Claim two protesters were ‘stabbed by Muslims in Stoke’ is false – Full Fact

Claims that two protesters were “stabbed by Muslims in Stoke” over the weekend have been widely circulating on social media. But Staffordshire Police has confirmed “this information is false and no stabbings have been reported to police, despite videos fuelling speculation on social media”.

A video being shared alongside the claim shows a large police presence and people shouting. The police appear to be standing around someone on the ground as an officer attends to them.

A voice says “a gang of Muslims have just come up and done, I don’t know what the f*** they’ve done to this lad, but he’s bleeding out all over the place. They’ve stabbed him. I hope they haven’t killed him. I hope they haven’t killed him. This is a f***ing joke. Oh there’s…

Facebook post repeats unreliable Labour claim about family finances – Full Fact

A Facebook post claims “The typical household is now £5,883 worse off since 2019”, but there are a number of problems with this figure.

The post, first shared in May, says: “The conservatives are making Britain poorer while they all get richer, they are all on the gravy train!

“The typical household is now £5,883 worse off since 2019 due to energy prices, mortgages, groceries, motoring, personal tax and council, tax. [sic]”

The £5,883 figure was first shared by the Labour party in May and circulated widely during the 2024 general election campaign. But as we’ve previously explained, the figure only includes six specific household costs, and doesn’t account for changes to wages or benefits since 2019.

Real household disposable income per…
