Kinbridge Community Association hosting newcomer picnic

The Kinbridge Community Association, in partnership with the City of Cambridge, is celebrating Welcoming Week with a free picnic.

On Sept. 14, newcomers can gather for food, drinks and family-friendly activities at 200 Christopher Dr. in Galt.

Booths will also be set up with information on programs and services that are accessible within the city.

Welcoming Week is an annual campaign that was launched in 2012 by the organization Welcoming America.

The campaign serves as an opportunity for residents to come together and form connections in an effort to create an inclusive community.

This year, Welcoming Week runs from Sept. 13 to 22.

The picnic begins at 11 a.m. and wraps up at 2 p.m.

‘Special day’: CFB Borden hosting free community celebration

Taking place Sept. 21, annual Borden Blast will include Ferris wheel, military vehicles and Kiddie Commando Obstacle Course

Canadian Forces Base Borden is holding its annual Borden Blast celebration Sept. 21.

The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include local food trucks, a petting zoo, face painting, a Ferris wheel, military vehicles, the Kiddie Commando Obstacle Course, and more.

There will also be $10,000 worth of prizes available to be won.

“This special day is dedicated to celebrating both our active and retired military members, as well as our vibrant local community members who want to participate and show their support,” said organizers.

Nigel Farage’s comments on ‘the black community’ taken out of context – Full Fact

A video of Reform UK leader and Clacton MP Nigel Farage has been shared on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, claiming Mr Farage “says he will do nothing for the black community”. But this clip is missing important context. 

In the clip, Mr Farage says: “What was I going to do for the black community? Do you know what I said? ‘Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I couldn’t give a damn’.”

The video being shared online cuts Mr Farage off mid-sentence, whereas, in the full video, he actually says “I couldn’t give a damn whether you’re black or white”.

This clip comes from a video posted on YouTube by Canadian academic Jordan Peterson, who interviewed Mr Farage on 2 July 2024. The full interview lasts for around 50 minutes.
