BBC Breakfast host halts live broadcast to share 'sad' breaking news with fans – Daily Star


BBC Breakfast was abruptly interrupted as presenters Ben Thompson and Sarah Campbell shared some “sad” news.

Filling in for regulars Jon Kay and Sally Nugent on on Monday (August 5), the presenters shared the announcement of England cricket legend Graham Thorpe’s death aged of 55.

The show paused its usual programming to break the shocking news to viewers, with Ben addressing the audience: “Just some more news to bring to you this morning away from the Olympics and some sad news as-well.”

He continued with a sombre tone” “News of the death of the former cricketer Graham Thorpe at the age of just 55. His family revealed he had been diagnosed with a serious illness back in March of 2022.”

Following the attempted assassination Saturday of former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, all eyes will be on the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee starting Monday, but fans of “The Daily Show” will have to wait a day.

In a post shared Sunday on social media, the Comedy Central late-night staple announced it would not be broadcasting Monday from the RNC as previously planned. The show’s “Indecision 2024” will cover the convention Tuesday through Thursday from its New York City studio.

Why ‘The Daily Show’ Isn’t Reporting From RNC After Trump Assassination Attempt

Jon Stewart and The Daily Show were going to be reporting live from the Republic National Convention this week, with shows planned for Monday, July 15 through Thursday, July 18, but that all changed as a result of the fatal political violence that unfolded over the weekend at Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania rally.

“The Daily Show will not broadcast Monday (tomorrow) but we’ll be back up Tuesday through Thursday from our NYC studio,” reads the message shared on social media (including Instagram, below) on July 14. “Our apologies for the inconvenience, but due to logistical issues and the evolving situation in Milwaukee, we need to reschedule our events on the ground in Wisconsin and will look to make those up in the coming weeks.”
