Anonymous leaks gigabytes of data from alt-right web host Epik

Hacktivist collective Anonymous claims to have obtained gigabytes of data from Epik, which provides domain name, hosting, and DNS services for a variety of clients. These include the Texas GOP, Gab, Parler, and 8chan, among other right-wing sites. The stolen data has been released as a torrent. The hacktivist collective says that the data set, which is over 180GB in size, contains a “decade’s worth of data from the company.”

Anonymous says the data set is “all that’s needed to trace actual ownership and management of the fascist side of the Internet that has eluded researchers, activists, and, well, just about everybody.” If this information is correct, Epik’s customers’ data and identities could now fall into the hands of activists,…

Web Hosting Canada says unauthorized activity by third-party service provider caused major outage, data loss – DatacenterDynamics

Montreal-based service provider Web Hosting Canada suffered a lengthy outage on Saturday 28 August.

The company blamed the downtime on unauthorized activity by an undisclosed third-party service provider. Production servers and backup servers were affected, which may have caused permanent data loss for some. Services are still recovering.

Outage and data loss at Web Hosting Canada still unexplained

Montreal-based service provider Web Hosting Canada has still not explained the cause of a major incident Saturday that took customers on eleven of its servers offline, with the loss of data on five of the machines. Only two of the servers have so far returned to service.

As of Monday morning the company was not still answering its phone. Instead it directed callers to use its online chat service or create a customer support ticket.

It’s unknown whether the incident was a technical problem or a cyber attack.

On its website the company said five of nine servers had both their local storage and their external backup storage “heavily damaged.”
