Holden Arboretum, Cleveland Botanical Garden hosting food/music events – News-Herald

Food and music combine during the final week in July at both the Holden Arboretum and the Cleveland Botanical Garden.

Blues musician Sam Hooper plays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on July 26 in the gardens of the arboretum, 9550 Sperry Road in Kirtland, where food trucks and a drinks kiosk open at 5:30 p.m. Hooper takes his inspiration from Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana.

Those who attend bring chairs and blankets for seating and picnics are welcomed. The concert is free with admission which is at no cost for members.

Geauga Park District hosting Summer Solstice events – News-Herald

Geauga Park District’s Naturalist Department is hosting a full day of free events in celebration of the Summer Solstice.

The solstice celebrations will span four different parks during the day, with a Sunrise Walk from 6-7:30 a.m. at Observatory Park at 10610 Clay St. in Montville Township. The walk will follow the Planetary Trail with explanations from the naturalist.

A Horseback Trail Ride from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. will start off at Holbrook Hollows, 7250 Country Lane in Bainbridge Township. Those who bring their own horses will follow the trail from Holbrook Hollows to Cleveland Metroparks’ South Chagrin Reservation.

A Solar Noon Watch from 1 to 2 p.m. at Observatory Park will observe the noon-time sun, with astronomy naturalist Chris Mentrek helping study the sun during its highest…

HHH hosting annual events in memory of dedicated volunteer

May 2—When dedicated volunteer, team member, and Board of Directors member, Anita Ulwelling, passed away unexpectedly in January 2021, the Hormel Historic Home knew they needed to honor her legacy.

Each year, Ulwelling’s legacy is honored by celebrating her favorite things around her birthday to remember her and raise funds for the historic house museum she was devoted to, the Hormel Historic Home, a 501©3 nonprofit organization.

A Spring Card/Game Playing Luncheon & Party will be hosted at 11:30 a.m. on May 4.

Ulwelling’s favorite polka band was Barefoot Becky, so an annual polka night — with food and beverages were added to the May 4 celebration.
