SALISBURY — After hosting several pre-opening events to benefit the local community, Texas Roadhouse opened to the public Tuesday at the Rowan Summit Shopping Center.

The location, which is just under 8,000 square feet and can seat about 300 guests, is the first Texas Roadhouse in Rowan County. The franchise was brought to Salisbury by Managing Partner David Simon. Texas Roadhouse joins Dick’s Sporting Goods, Hobby Lobby, Five Below, Kirkland’s and several other businesses that already inhabit Rowan Summit Shopping Center.

Sep. 28—Continued high COVID-19 spread in the area has forced the cancellation of Kilgore’s National Night Out parties.

“Many of our dedicated hosts and attendees to the National Night Out parties are in the high risk category for COVID exposure,” the Kilgore Police Department said in a Facebook post. “We felt it was the best choice to not move forward in hosting the NNO parties (being we use the format where we have individual neighborhood parties at a host’s home, and not a larger community gathering).”

National Night Out aims to unite communities and local law enforcement through annual parties.

Though Kilgore has cancelled its National Night Out, the Overton Police Department plans to hold its own celebration on Tuesday, Oct. 5 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

BAY CITY, MI – This Saturday would normally be a typical late summer weekend in Michigan, where you would typically kick back and relax while enjoying the cooler breezes and what little time summer has left to offer. However, this weekend’s September breezes will carry with it more than just the impending changing of seasons – the memories of those who were lost 20 years ago during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks will also be carried on the wind and by the members of the Bay County community.

Various organizations and groups across Bay County will be hosting special events and ceremonies this weekend to remember and mark the 20th anniversary of the of the 9/11 attacks.

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – A local group is making efforts to show people just how important the Shenandoah River is through music and storytelling events.

Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River is an advocacy group dedicated to keeping the river clean and healthy through science education and community outreach.

The group is hosting events throughout the summer to share the river’s rich history and importance.

They say it’s important to keep the river healthy because people throughout the Valley depend on it in a number of ways.

“The Shenandoah more broadly supports oodles of people, so many people and so it’s extremely important not just to drinking and health, but also to agriculture,” said Mariama Dryak, programs coordinator for Friends of the North Fork.
