Several Facebook posts being shared to local community groups claim to be someone searching for their birth parents. But the posts are fake.

One post, which appears in a Nottingham and Nottinghamshire car sales group and has almost 2,000 shares, says: “Hello my name is Javier Thomas. I was born here in Nottingham  June 17 1993 looking for my birth mother or father. Mother’s name is Cathy M Evans and she was only 16 at the time of my birth. That’s all info I have. Please bump this post and help me reunite with my family.I really need them at this point of my life. [sic]”

There are multiple posts that have almost identical text but use different names, dates and locations. These posts appear in community groups across the UK, including Lurgan Town in Northern…

A Facebook post falsely claims that the restaurant chain Toby Carvery is offering two free meals to people who share and comment on it. 

Toby Carvery is owned by the company Mitchells & Butlers, which told Full Fact that it has no connection with the page or post in question.

The post, which has over 3,000 shares and almost 10,000 comments at the time of writing, says: “Here at Toby Carvery we wanted to show you how much we care as we know times haven’t been easy this year so for the school Easter holidays we have decided that everybody who has $hared&¢ommented in the 10 day time frame from now will be given with a 𝐹𝑅𝐸𝐸 meal for 2 that can be used at breakfast, lunch or dinner at any location [sic].”

A telehealth startup that gained popularity during the pandemic has said it shared private patient data with tech giants Google, Meta, and TikTok for years.

As reported by TechCrunch(Opens in a new window), Cerebral, which is used by millions of people to search for therapy or mental health services, said it disclosed data collected from its online mental health self-assessment with third-party advertisers, as well as big tech.

The data was shared via tracking pixels, custom-built code that Meta, TikTok, and Google allow developers to embed in their apps and websites. CALIFORNIA – Social media conglomerate Facebook has announced to launch its own free website builder and paid web hosting service to support the businesses during the pandemic.

By investing in these new business tools, the social media company is working with its partners to launch this service in the coming months. It will directly compete with other website builders like Wix and GoDaddy.
