Aug. 12 (UPI) — A truck struck Nev Schulman while he was riding his bike, the Catfish host shared on social media over the weekend.

Schulman was en route to his son’s school Aug. 5 when the incident occurred, leaving him with a broken neck.

“C5 and C6 to be exact,” he wrote on Instagram. “Stable fractures. I’m not paralyzed. My hands were a question mark there for a minute but the human body is incredible and so are humans.”

He offered gratitude for the medical professionals who provided care, adding, “It’s hard to feel sorry for myself when I hear from the doctors about how many people with similar injuries…

Single host saw 70,000 servers hit with Ebury backdoor

A single hosting provider saw 70,000 servers infected with Ebury malware in 2023, according to a detailed report by cybersecurity provider Eset.

Ebury, active in various forms since 2009, is a backdoor inside the OpenSSH daemon. It acts as a way for attackers to install more malware.

The US-based autonomous system was used by several server leasing companies. And Eset warned in a whitepaper that the malware operators “have established a significant presence in data centers worldwide…”

Hosting costs for 2026 FIFA World Cup in Vancouver double, may hit $581M

VANCOUVER — Organizers of the seven FIFA World Cup soccer matches coming to Vancouver in 2026 say the estimated cost of hosting the event has more than doubled in the last two years.

VANCOUVER — Organizers of the seven FIFA World Cup soccer matches coming to Vancouver in 2026 say the estimated cost of hosting the event has more than doubled in the last two years. 

The latest estimates put the price tag at between $483 million and $581 million, including costs for the city, the province and stadium upgrades.

However, the B.C. government says the event is expected to generate enough revenue to result in a net cost of between $100 million and $145 million.

US health giant Kaiser hit by data breach — millions of customers informed they could be at risk

American healthcare giant Kaiser Foundation Health Plan exposed sensitive data on millions of its current and former patients, apparently by mistake. 

Among the data inadvertently shared with advertisers are member names and IP addresses, and information regarding their membership status with Kaiser Permanente. Furthermore, the company leaked information on how members interacted with the website and the apps, and what they searched for in the health encyclopedia.
