White House hosts conference on hunger, with $8B in commitments

President Biden on Wednesday is hosting the first White House summit in nearly a half-century dedicated to combating hunger, with administration officials saying they have secured $8 billion in public- and private-sector commitments toward helping provide more food and better nutrition by 2030.

Biden is planning to speak at the conference, which will also feature several members of Congress — including Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Mike Braun (R-Ind.), as well as Reps. Rosa L. DeLauro (D-Conn.) and Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) — and several Cabinet officials. It will also include José Andrés, the chef and founder of World Central Kitchen, and New York Mayor Eric Adams (D).

Ballston Spa softball team hosts Grand Slam tournament to support mental health – The Daily Gazette

The Ballston Spa softball team hopes that this weekend’s installment of its annual Grand Slam Tournament will bring awareness to another worthy cause.

The Grand Slam event has been dedicated to the fight against ALS since 2016. This year, the event will be dedicated to suicide awareness and menthal health support.

“One of our players, her father suffered from ALS and we wanted to support her and that cause,” Ballston Spa softball coach Amanda Fifield said. “Then, a family within our program was impacted by the the loss of someone due to suicide. We want to make a donation in their honor, and promote the awareness that there’s help out there for you.”
