Victoria Conservatory of Music hosting Truth and Reconciliation concert

The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29

In honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Victoria Conservatory of Music is set to host a special event on Sunday, Sept. 29, to highlight Indigenous performers.

“We are aiming to create space for Indigenous performers and music students, and create space for dialogue through music,” said Nathan Medd, the Conservatory’s CEO. “Music can be a bridge to understanding, and we have heard a desire for the Conservatory to play a role on this day and to support artists who help us toward that understanding.”

Apple Music lets subscribers transfer playlists to (and later on, from) YouTube Music

Thanks to a recent update, Apple Music subscribers can now transfer playlists to a YouTube Music profile. This new feature was introduced very quietly, as Apple didn’t make an announcement through its usual avenues. We only learned about the tool after people discovered changes made to one of the company’s support documents.

Subscribers will need to meet certain requirements before migrating anything over. First, you’ll need an Apple Music or iTunes Match subscription. Users also need an active YouTube Music account. Fortunately, you don’t need a YouTube Music subscription, so at least moving playlists won’t be a pricey endeavor.

Megan Thee Stallion To Host 2024 Video Music Awards

The 2024 Video Music Awards just got hotter with its latest announcement.

On Thursday morning (Aug. 22), Megan Thee Stallion was named the host of the ceremony. While it will be the “Hot Girl” performer’s first time emceeing a major award show, she is no stranger to commanding the mic outside of rap.

She previously co-hosted Saturday Night Live and landed acting roles in the television series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, and the film D**ks: The Musical.

Dance, music and clothing shared at Utah gathering

Springville • Every summer for nearly four decades, folk groups from around the globe have gathered to share their cultural heritage — from clothing to music to dance — in one small Utah city.

The World Folkfest started in 1986, and will be held in Springville this year from Tuesday through Saturday. This year, 10 countries are represented at the festival, including Ukraine, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Poland.

The performance groups arrived Sunday afternoon at the Springville Art Museum in four big buses, and were greeted by host families with cheers and waves. Soon, the complex around the museum’s entrance became a sea of suitcases as participants unloaded.
