The Stop Killing Games campaign started from the outrage after the videogame titled The Crew shut down and was made completely unplayable for everyone who has purchased it in the past (which, as far as I’m concerned, is nothing short of stealing from the consumers). Law-abiding hosting providers don’t openly and explicitly welcome pirate sites. At the same time, many of these third-party service providers have historically taken a neutral position in copyright conflicts. However, under EU law and supporting legal precedents, hosting companies are required to take action against infringement, as doing nothing can become quite costly.

Earlier this month, torrent search engine MagnetDL mysteriously went offline, and there’s still no trace of the site today.

A copyright battle has spawned a sweeping order demanding internet service providers block a set of pirate sites — one of the broadest such rulings to date.

As TorrentFreak recently reported, a New York district judge ruled in late April on a series of copyright lawsuits against three sites that rebroadcast mostly Hebrew-language television. The rightsholders demanded monetary damages from the site operators — who didn’t show up in court — and an injunction meant to prevent viewers from accessing the services.
