Ransomware attack forces web hosting provider Managed.com to take servers offline

Managed.com, one of the biggest providers of managed web hosting solutions, has taken down all its servers in order to deal with a ransomware attack, ZDNet has learned today.

The attack took place on Monday, November 16, and the ransomware impacted the company’s public-facing web hosting systems, resulting in some customer sites having their data encrypted.

Managed.com said the incident only impacted a limited number of customer sites, which the company said it immediately took offline.

But hours after the attack, Managed.com said it also took down its entire web hosting infrastructure, which the company is now working to restore.

Web hosting provider exposes details of millions of clients in serious security lapse

Security researchers have discovered a huge data breach involving a web hosting firm, which may have threatened the privacy of some 63 million individuals. Security researcher Jeremiah Fowler, in collaboration with Secure Thoughts, discovered that an unsecured database hosted by US firm Cloud Clusters had potentially compromised usernames and passwords connected with Magento, WordPress and MySQL.

The exposed database contained records concerning data backups, monitoring, error logging, and more, with emails and passwords displayed in plain text.

Clearlake Capital Acquires Small Business Cloud and Hosting Provider Endurance

Private equity firm Clearlake Capital Group has acquired Endurance International Group Holdings and its portfolio of small business cloud applications — including email marketing software provider Constant Contact, along with Web hosting firms Bluehost, HostGator and Domain.com.

The buyout is valued at $9.50 per share or roughly $3 billion. Endurance’s stock ($EIGI) rose nearly 62 percent on the news. As part of the buyout announcement, Endurance also disclosed financial results for the third quarter of 2020:
