OVH Eco Servers (Kimsufi, SoYouStart, Rise) – complete range refresh and new pricing


Yesterday, OVH knocked availability for their entire Eco range off, and then a few hours later refreshed the line-up completely. The specs of the new line-up don’t exactly match what they offered before, but as far as I can tell this is the next iteration in their process of moving servers one tier down – so that previously new tech servers become Rise, previous Rise ones become SYS, previous SYS ones become Kimsufi. As a result, the Atom CPUs have now dropped off the bottom of the Kimsufi range. A bit of a price increase in the process, in that the cheapest SoYouStart server is now about the $40 mark rather than the $30 mark. But they’ve also made some changes to the differences between the tiers – Kimsufi is still capped at 300mbps, and don’t come with 100 GB of free backup…

Sitting Ducks attacks on the rise: domain names hijacked without intrusion

Domain names are getting hijacked undetected by Sitting Ducks attacks. The attack occurs without compromising the linked account, which the DNS provider should secure. The damage the attack causes can be extensive: cybercriminals are given the opportunity to spread malware and phishing under the domain name.

DNS providers are the target of Sitting Ducks attacks. Such attacks allow cybercriminals to hijack domain names and then abuse them. Abuse can take the form of malware, phishing campaigns, brand impersonation and data exfiltration. A Cobalt Strike would have already been illegally distributed in this way.

Microsoft looking to relocate hundreds of China-based workers as diplomatic tensions rise

Microsoft is reportedly advising some of its employees in China to consider transferring to other countries amid geopolitical tensions brought on by the US-China battle over advanced technologies.

A report by The Wall Street Journal claims the company is asking around 700-800 of its China-based workers involved in machine learning and cloud computing to consider moving to countries like the US, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
