Parler Goes Dark After Amazon Withdraws Web Hosting Service

Parler, the far-right social network favored by many Trump supporters, went offline on Sunday evening, apparently due to the withdrawal of web hosting services by Amazon’s AWS division.

Attempts by Variety to connect to the site on Monday arrived only at a largely blank screen with an error message announcing “this site can’t be reached.” Web trackers contacted by AFP reached the same conclusion.

Earlier over the weekend, Amazon informed Parler, which boasts of taking a hands-off policy to content moderation, of the imminent loss of its internet hosting services. That came after Apple and Google banned Parler from their…

Amazon to remove Parler from its web hosting service over violence encouraging posts

After Apple and Google, Amazon struck another blow and removed social media network Parler from its web hosting service for violating rules. According to CNN, Amazon has told Parler that it found 98 posts on the site to be encouraging violence. Now, as all the three major web hosting services have banned the app, Parler is set to go offline if it fails to find an alternative.

Parler is a social network founded as a less moderated and more conservative-friendly alternative to Facebook and Twitter. The US microblogging site has a user base of conservatives, conspiracy theorists, and right-wing extremists. Launched in 2018, the app also has proved particularly popular among supporters of US President Donald Trump.

In a letter, Amazon’s AWS Trust and Safety team…

Apple, Amazon suspend Parler social network from App Store and web hosting service | Back Page

Apple Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. have suspended Parler from their respective App Store and web hosting service, saying the social networking service popular with many right-leaning social media users has not taken adequate measures to prevent the spread of posts inciting violence.

The action by Apple and Amazon follows a similar move by Alphabet Inc’s Google on Friday.

Parler is favored by many supporters of President Donald Trump, who was permanently suspended from Twitter on Friday, and it is seen as a haven for people expelled from Twitter.

“We have suspended Parler from the App Store until they resolve these issues,” Apple said in a statement…

Amazon decides to boot Parler off its web hosting service

BOSTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has been kicked off of most mainstream social media platforms following his supporters’ siege on the U.S. Capitol. But it remains to be seen how fast or where — if anywhere — on the internet he will be able to reach his followers.

The far right-friendly Parler had been the leading candidate, at least until Google and Apple removed it from their app stores and Amazon decided to boot it off its web hosting service by midnight Pacific time on Sunday.

Parler’s CEO said that could knock it offline for a week, though that might prove optimistic. And even if it finds a friendlier web-hosting service, without a smartphone app, it’s hard to imagine Parler gaining mainstream success.

The 2-year-old magnet for the far…

Amazon Boots Parler from web hosting service as Google, Apple pull app from stores.

Parler has been enjoying a boost in popularity as President Donald Trump’s supporters have been joining the social network in droves after the commander in chief was kicked off several sites, including Twitter and Facebook. But now Parler could disappear, at least temporarily. Amazon notified Parler that it would kick the company out of its web-hosting service on Sunday night following repeated violations of its rules. The move came shortly after both Apple and Google removed the app from their app stores, also claiming the social network wasn’t doing enough to moderate content from its users..

The suspension that causes the biggest immediate threat to Parler is Amazon’s, as Parler could suddenly go offline if it isn’t able to find a new hosting service….
