Hope, and remembrance.
A Jacksonville group dedicated to preventing suicide and helping those who have lost someone to the epidemic of despair will host its annual Walk Out of the Darkness in September.
STARS — which stands for Seek, Trust, Ask, Respond, Save a Life — will join hundreds of other communities nationwide in the event, which encourages people to open up about how suicide has affected them and to remember those whose lives were lost.
The Jacksonville event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 in Central Park Plaza. There will be music, a candlelight walk, luminaria and the lighting of a memorial candle. Songwriter and storyteller Heather Harlan, a graduate of Illinois College, will be the guest speaker.
If it rains, the free event…
