Apple Is Trying to Save Your Hearing Health From Its Own Product

Along with unveiling new products on Monday including the iPhone 16 lineup and the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple shared a big update for its earbuds: AirPods Pro 2 are getting a new hearing aid mode. While this could help people with difficulty hearing, it could also fix a problem AirPods and other headphones can contribute to in the first place: hearing loss.

According to the American Osteopathic Association, about one in five teens will experience hearing loss in their life, and some experts think it’s because of headphones and earphones.

“Avoiding excessive use of listening devices altogether will go a long way in preventing hearing loss,” James E. Foy, an osteopathic pediatrician, told the AOA. “Whether using headphones or earphones, moderation is key.”

Apple Music lets subscribers transfer playlists to (and later on, from) YouTube Music

Thanks to a recent update, Apple Music subscribers can now transfer playlists to a YouTube Music profile. This new feature was introduced very quietly, as Apple didn’t make an announcement through its usual avenues. We only learned about the tool after people discovered changes made to one of the company’s support documents.

Subscribers will need to meet certain requirements before migrating anything over. First, you’ll need an Apple Music or iTunes Match subscription. Users also need an active YouTube Music account. Fortunately, you don’t need a YouTube Music subscription, so at least moving playlists won’t be a pricey endeavor.

Intel — The chip stock sank 17%. Intel said it would suspend its dividend in the fiscal fourth quarter, and it announced plans to lay off 15% of its workforce. The news coincided with worse-than-expected quarterly results. Intel also shared disappointing guidance for the current quarter.

Amazon — Shares of the e-commerce giant dropped 5% in extended trading. The company reported weaker-than-expected revenue for the second quarter and issued a disappointing forecast for the third quarter. Revenue in its cloud division increased 19% in the second quarter, beating analysts’ estimates, however.

Popular VPNs have just disappeared from the Apple App Store in Russia

At least four of the best VPN services have reportedly disappeared from the Apple App Store in Russia as of Thursday, July 4, 2024. 

The news comes as two of the providers affected (Red Shield VPN and Le VPN) have shared the communication they received from Apple to notify the removal “per demand from Roskomnadzor,” the Russian censor body, for including “content that is illegal in Russia.” NordVPN and Proton VPN also appear to have been removed.
